Laura, aged 15 and her mum, Betty, set up this Fund in honour of Davy Thompson who died of cancer in 2005. Laura was devastated when she lost her father at such a young age but she wanted to do something positive and help other families with cancer. So, she set up the Fund and now many of her family and friends are involved in raising money.
Laura regularly raises money for the Fund by making greeting cards and selling them to family and friends. Davy’s workplace holds an annual football tournament to raise funds, getting the whole workforce involved and Laura’s cousin has taken part in UCF walks/treks. Ballymoney Borough Council recognised Laura’s fundraising initiatives for UCF by awarding her with the ’Young Person’s Recognition of Achievement for Campaign Fundraiser’!
